Charles E. "Chuck" Bentley joined the law firm of Boswell & Dunlap, LLP, in January 2004. Chuck specializes in the defense of Florida employers, both public and private, and their carriers, in litigated workers' compensation claims and other employment related cases. Chuck is a graduate of The Ohio State University, College of Biological Sciences (B.Sc. 1968). From 1968 to 1971, he served in the U.S. Army, Military Intelligence Branch. He earned his law degree from the University of Florida, College of Law (J.D. 1973). He was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1974, and served as an Assistant State Attorney in Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto Counties.
In 1975, he entered private practice in Bradenton. In 1976, his firm merged with Holland & Knight, Florida's largest law firm. In 1979, Chuck became the supervising partner for Holland & Knight's workers' compensation practice area. In this role, he defended claims asserted against some of Florida's largest employers. From 1999 to 2003, Chuck continued his workers' compensation defense practice throughout Central Florida.
From 1981 to 1983, he served on the Florida Bar Workers' Compensation Rules Committee. In 1988, Chuck was among the first group of Florida lawyers recognized as experts in workers' compensation law by The Florida Bar, when he was designated a "Board Certified Workers' Compensation Specialist." He has continuously maintained this certification to date. He is also rated AV by Martindale Hubbell, and is listed among the top American lawyers in the Millennium Edition of Strathmore's "Who's Who in American Law". In 2010, Chuck was included in the publication Florida Super Lawyers for his workers' compensation defense practice.
Chuck is a member of the Florida Bar, The Florida Defense Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute. He is admitted to the trial bars of all United States District Courts in Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a Ruling Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Bartow, Past President of the Bartow Chamber of Commerce and Bartow Rotary Club, and a graduate of Leadership Lakeland and Leadership Bartow.
